Staying Warm and Healthy This Winter
Winter is here, and it's important to keep our children warm and healthy. Please make sure your learners are dressed in one of or a combination of our rugby jumper, polar fleece jumper and or spray jacket for the cold weather. Also, please remind your child(ren) to practice good hygiene to keep winter viruses away. This includes washing hands regularly, using tissues for runny noses, and drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Our Vision
At Waverley we foster a safe, inclusive community, nurturing lifelong learners through trust, respect, and positive relationships, empowering students for success and lifelong learning.
We thank the staff, students and families that participate in the workshop(s) to help us to create our vision.
Courage Focus
One way we bring the vision to life is through our Department values. Our focus value this term is Courage. At Waverley, courage means accepting challenges, embracing opportunities, standing up for what is right, and being brave in our learning. This can mean asking for help or working with a Teacher Assistant or Teacher.
Exciting Term 3 Activities and Events
We have a busy term ahead with many fun activities and events planned:
- Science Week Excursion for all Year 1 and 2 students.
- Jump Rope for Heart Event
- Mass Dance Event where students can showcase their dance skills.
- Book Week for Kinder to Year 6, celebrating our love of reading.
- Student Led Conferences where students can share their learning progress.
- LIFT: Learning in Families Together we will share a range of literacy and numeracy activities that can be completed at home and shared with your child’s teacher.
These activities are designed to enrich our students' learning and strengthen the bond between home and school. Stay updated on dates through our Facebook page and this newsletter.
Fluro Disco Success
A big thank you to our School Association for organizing the successful Fluro Disco! It was wonderful to see all the children having fun and participating in both structured and free dancing.
Attendance Matters
We are closely monitoring attendance this term. Many students have set personal goals to attend every day, which is fantastic! The class with the highest overall attendance rate will win a reward. It’s a team effort, and we’re excited to see which class will win! We have invited our Student Representative Council (SRC) to ask each class for ideas for the prize.

NAIDOC Week wrap up
As a school we take pride in celebrating NAIDOC week. While NAIDOC week was in the holidays this year on Wednesday 31st July we participated in a smoke ceremony as part of our NAIDOC themed assembly. On Thursday 1st August each class joined our Aboriginal Education Support Officer, Cecillia, to participate in numerous activities such as:
- creating a banner for the school with each child's hand painted as a flag;
- searching for traditional shells in sand tubs;
- painting with Ochre;
- reading Aboriginal books;
- completing Aboriginal puzzles;
- creating fire and cockatoo pictures.
All students participated and had a fabulous time with many different artworks created. Please have a look at some of the amazing artworks that are now on display in the hallway space just past the office.
Ms Cecillia Wheatley
Aboriginal Education Support Officer
1-2 Meallin
In 1-2 Meallin, we have been celebrating the histories and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. In our lessons, we have been learning about yarning circles. Yarning circles are important within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. This is where people come together to share stories, build trust, and show respectful listening.
For our own yarning circles, we have made some yarning sticks. They are also known as talking sticks. It is a tool used in Aboriginal culture during a yarning circle. The person holding the yarning stick is the only one allowed to speak at that time. Others must listen respectfully. We made them by wrapping colourful wool, string and ribbon around sticks.

Bullying No Way: National week of action
Monday 12th August is National week of action to prevent bullying. In classes students will learn about bullying is when one person (or a group of people) with more power than someone else repeatedly hurts or upsets them.
Bullying can happen in person or online It is:
- An ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships.
- Repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour.
- Intended to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm.
Sometimes you might have an argument or a fight with someone. If it happens once, it is not bullying – even though it can be upsetting.
If you sometimes fight with a friend and you can sort it out, that is not bullying either.
Everyone belongs at our school. To create a positive sense of belonging we are courageous. We:
- Challenge stereotypes – don’t judge people first, get to know them
- Promote empathy – treat people how you would like to be treated
- Embrace diversity – celebrate different backgrounds, interests and identities
- Foster positive relationships – accept and respect people for who they are
- Provide support – know who you can turn to for help.
Remember:
- Bullying is never ok.
- Being bullied is never your fault.
- There is always someone you can reach out to for help.

Health and Physical Education Teacher
