From the Principal
I am filled with an immense sense of pride and gratitude as I reflect on the recent athletics carnival held at our school. It was more than just a display of physical prowess and competitive spirit; it was a testament to the strength of our community and the power of connection.
At our school, we hold dear the values of friendship and support. During the athletics carnival, these values were illuminated as beacons guiding our students towards success.
As we cheered for our athletes, we witnessed an extraordinary showcase of sportsmanship and unity. Despite individual standings or outcomes, the collective spirit of encouragement and camaraderie prevailed. Our students embodied the belief that true strength lies not only in personal achievement but in uplifting others.
The athletics carnival exemplified the transformative influence of a supportive community, where students supported each other, creating an environment where everyone felt valued and inspired to reach their full potential.
We extend a special acknowledgment to Miss Matuska for her outstanding coordination of the carnival. Despite challenges posed by poor air quality from nearby fires, there was uncertainty about whether the carnival could proceed. However, thanks to Miss Matuska's resilience and adaptability, we not only overcame these obstacles but also crafted a memorable event that underscored our community's strength and determination.
The innovative format of the carnival received accolades, and the arrangement of field events fostered a strong sense of support. Miss Matuska, House Captains, staff and parent volunteers your dedication truly made the day a genuine celebration of our community. We are deeply appreciative of your tireless efforts.
The final result was close with truwala House overcoming the strong efforts of laymina House. The shield will be presented at our final assembly in term 1.
This week some of our students will receive an invitation to attend the LSSSA Athletic Carnival at St Leonards Athletic Centre. The LSSA Athletic Carnival is on Thursday 28th March from 9:20am – 12:00pm.
Hot Lunch Program
The school's hot lunch program serves Year 4-5 and 5-6 students on Thursdays, and Prep-1, 1-2, and 2-3 students on Fridays. It was delightful to witness families and students dining together after our athletics carnival last Thursday. A big thank you to Mrs. Bland for her wonderful coordination to cook for 150 people on that day. The meal was delicious. Thank you to Mrs Bland's mother for volunteering to help in our kitchen and to serve meals. Your efforts were greatly appreciated.
Meet the Teacher
We were glad to see families meeting their child's teacher last Thursday at our Meet the Teacher event. Interim reports were sent home on Tuesday, providing a good starting point for discussions. These reports highlight your child's learning behaviours.
Parent-Teacher Meetings are crucial for keeping you informed, and we urge all families to participate. If you wish to discuss your child's learning outside the parent teacher schedule, please do arrange a meeting directly with your child’s teacher or through the school office.
Kinder Health Check
Every Kindergarten child at Waverley Primary School can have a Kinder Health Check (KHC) with the School Health Nurse. The health check includes vision and hearing screening, height and weight measurements and an oral health check.
The KHC form has been sent home with your child.
Please return to the form to Mrs Salter as soon as possible.
2024 NAPLAN testing will be held from Wednesday 13 March to Monday 25 March
Individual students’ performance in NAPLAN is shown on a national achievement scale for each test. The performance f individual students can be compared to the average performance of all students in Australia. Parents will receive their child’s individual report.
Thank you for supporting your child’s participation in the important national initiative.
School Association Democracy BBQ
On Saturday 23rd March Waverley Primary is a site to vote. From 8am to 4pm until otherwise sold out the School Association will be selling sausages at our Democracy BBQ. There will be cans of soft drink available too. We hope to see you on Saturday!

Community Connections Celebration
Thanks to our grant with Communities For Children, we were able to purchase tickets for families to see Maggie Dent at the Tramsheds on Sunday 3rd March. The information had us laughing and shedding a few tears as we related to the stories shared. Maggie really brought what it is like to raise teenagers. Parents commented very favourably about what they took away from the session. Below are a few comments.
"Thoroughly enjoyed the seminar. I thought it was eye-opening on young teenage boys and how they think and what they go through. I also found it got me being reflective on what I do as a parent and what I could do to change. I also can't wait to listen to Maggie Dents podcast and read her book."
"Maggie's talk gave me great insight into the challenges boys face both socially and biologically, but also reinforced the importance of being a safe person for all the young men in my life."
"Hi Sally, I found the seminar to be quite informative, especially regarding the different stages of brain development with the effects it can have, and gained knowlege on how to support/interact/respond to help reduce negative inpacts during those crucial developmental stages. As well as being informative, there were plenty of laughs to be had and even a tear or two. Definately an eye-opener."
REMINDER 2024 Student Validation Forms
